In 2013 Robbie left his position as head chef at a bible school and was considering the next step for him and Amanda as they planned to be married the next summer. Robbie was invited by YFC Comox Valley's Executive Director and a friend to work as a community outreach worker during their summer programs, and at the end of the summer was asked to stay on full time! After some time Robbie was approached by the board and director to take over the leadership of the ministry. Hear Robbie share his heart for the ministry below:
Why do you believe the work we do is so important?
"The mandate of Jesus was to go share the good news and to love others. It was people obeying this mandate in my story who influenced and impacted me when I was a young person. Their loving kindness towards me through Jesus changed my life forever and gave me hope. My life transformation happened when I was a young person, as people came alongside me in my time of need, believed in me and believed that God had a plan for my life. I believe that God has a plan for every young person’s life, and this is why I do this work. In a world full of confusion and hurt it is God's love and kindness through his spirit in us that will transform young people."
What inspires you?
"Being creative. Seeing things transformed and restored. People overcoming adversity. Young people who serve others above themselves. Opportunities to bring hope to the world."
As a family, what is yours and Amanda’s heart for this ministry?
"Our heart for the ministry is that we would be known as people who love God and love others. That through God’s equipping and through his spirit the team would have a great impact in the community and lives of teens in the Valley. And that their impact would see a generation transformed by the love of Jesus."
